    The iCL Rider from Aegon Life is an additional option that can be added to your base plan to increase the level of protection offered to you. The rider covers four critical illnesses and when a policyholder is diagnosed with any of these conditions, he/she will receive the sum assured. Once the benefit is paid out to the customer, the rider will terminate with immediate effect but the base plan will continue to remain active. The four critical illness conditions covered by the Aegon Life iCL Rider are cancer, open chest CABG, first heart attack, and stroke.

    Eligibility – Who is the Aegon Life iCL Rider for?

    The Aegon Life iCL Rider can be availed by anyone who already has a main life insurance policy from Aegon Life. The rider can be added to the base plan to increase your cover, but there are certain age restriction that must be adhered to in order to avail the rider. The eligibility criteria for the Aegon Life iCL Rider are as follow:

    Plan Coverage – What the Aegon Life iCL Rider cover?

    Cancer The Aegon Life iCL Rider covers different kinds of cancer including sarcoma, leukemia and lymphoma. Cancer is defined as a malignant tumour that is characterised by the uncontrolled growth and spread of malignant cells with invasion and destruction of normal tissues. Customers who are diagnosed with the condition must furnish documents to show histological evidence of malignancy and the same documents must be confirmed by a pathologist.
    Open Chest CABG The Aegon Life iCL Rider covers policyholders who undergo an open heart surgery to treat one or more coronary arteries that are blocked or narrowed, by coronary artery bypass graft. A coronary angiography must support the diagnosis and a specialist medical practitioner must confirm the realization of surgery for the customer to avail the benefit.
    Stroke Stroke is defined as any cerebrovascular incident that produces permanent neurological sequelae, including embolization and haemorrhage from an extracranial source, thrombosis in an intracranial vessel, or infarction of brain tissue. A specialist medical practitioner will have to confirm the diagnosis and evidence will have to be provided to the company by way of typical findings in MRI or CT Scan of the brain as well as typical clinical symptoms. Customers will have to produce evidence of permanent neurological deficit lasting for a minimum of three months.
    First Heart Attack The first time myocardial infarction occurs, which basically means the death of a portion of the heart due to lack of sufficient blood supply to the relevant area, it will be covered by the Aegon Life iCL Rider. The policyholder can be diagnosed if he/she has a history of typical clinical symptoms consistent with the diagnosis of Acute Myocardial Infarction, new characteristic electrocardiogram changes, or elevation of infarction specific enzymes, Troponins or other specific biochemical markers.

    Exclusions – What the Aegon Life iCL Rider does not include?

    Cancer:

    Following are the exclusions for cancer:

    • Tumours showing the malignant changes of carcinoma in situ and tumours that are histologically described as premalignant or non-invasive, including but not limited to cervical dysplasia and carcinoma in situ of breasts.
    • All tumours of the prostate unless histologically classified as having a Gleason score in excess of 6 or having progressed to a minimum clinical TNM classification.
    • Any skin cancer apart from invasive malignant melanoma.
    • Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia lower than RAI stage 3.
    • All tumours in the presence of HIV infection.
    • Papillary micro-carcinoma of the thyroid less than one cm in diameter.
    • Microcarcinoma of the bladder.

    Open Chest CABG:

    Following are the exclusions for Open Chest CABG:

    • Any laser or key-hole surgery.
    • Angioplasty and/or any other intra-arterial procedures.

    Stroke:

    Following are the exclusions for stroke:

    • Traumatic injury of the brain.
    • Transient ischemic attacks.
    • Vascular disease affecting only the optic nerve or eye or vestibular functions.

    First Heart Attack:

    Following are the exclusions for first heart attack:

    • Non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction with elevation of Troponin I or T.
    • Any type of angina pectoris.
    • Other acute Coronary Syndromes.

    General Exclusions:

    The life assured will not be eligible for any benefits in case the critical illness covered is a result of the following causes:

    • Pre-existing diseases for which the life assured had symptoms or signs and/or was diagnosed within 48 months before the first policy issued by Aegon Life.
    • Diseases in the presence of an HIV infection.
    • Any four of the critical illnesses were diagnosed within 90 days of the start of coverage.
    • Any congenital condition.
    • Solvent or alcohol abuse or taking of narcotics, drugs or psychotropic substances apart from those prescribed by a registered medical practitioner.
    • Attempted suicide or intentional self-inflicted injury.
    • Failure to seek or follow medical advice.
    • Taking part in any military, naval or air force operation during a time of peace.
    • Invasion, war, hostilities, act of foreign enemy, civil war, armed or unarmed truce, revolution, mutiny, insurrection, rebellion, usurped or military power, civil commotion or riots, strikes, etc.
    • Participation in an unlawful or criminal act.
    • Participation in any flying activity apart from bona fide fare-paying passenger of a recognised airline flying on regular routes on a scheduled timetable.
    • Nuclear contamination, the explosive, hazardous or radioactive nature of nuclear fuel materials or property contaminated by nuclear fuel materials or accidents arising from such nature.
    • Participation in professional sports or hazardous pursuits such as martial arts, mountaineering, bungee jumping, hunting, parachuting, riding or driving in any type of race, etc.

    Other Key Features – Freelook Period, Surrender Values, Grace Period etc.

    Following are some of the other key features of the Aegon Life iCL Rider:

    Free Look Cancellation Customers who are not satisfied with the terms and conditions of the Aegon Life iCL Rider can return the same to the policy within a period of 30 days from the date on which it was issued. The rider premium will be returned to the customer in such a scenario after stamp duty has been deducted.
    Option to Attach or Detach Rider Benefit The Aegon Life iCL Rider can be attached to the base plan at any time during the policy term of the base policy. Attachment of riders will be subject to underwriting requirements and the rider can be detached from the base plan at any time. The detachment will be effective only from the next premium due date.
    Premium Renewability Premiums are guaranteed for the first five policy years and for a period of five years thereafter. New premiums are subject to approval from IRDAI and customers will be informed about changes in premiums at least 30 days in advance.
    Waiting Period A waiting period of 90 days is applicable from the date of inception and date of reinstatement of the rider to claim the benefit, provided the life assured has survived for a period of 90 days.
    Grace Period Customers who fail to make premium payments on time will receive a grace period of 90 days to ensure that the due premium has been paid.
