While new vehicles in the union territory will come affixed with high security registration plates, vehicle owners will have to replace the number plates of older vehicles with these new HSRPs.

Elements of a High Security Registration Plate

The elements of a high security registration plate are as follows:

    • Hot stamped Chrome-based hologram on the left of the number plate.
    • The letters ‘IND’ in blue colour under the hologram.
    • Laser-branded permanent identification number.
    • The number plate should have a white retroreflective sheet, which should be visible at a distance of 200 metres.

*Note: In the case of commercial vehicles, the number plate should have a yellow retroreflective sheet.

  • The number plate should be an imported aluminium plate that has a shelf life of more than 5 years.
  • The high security registration plate should have an alpha-numeric code that is hot stamped with black foil with ‘INDIA’ inscribed on it.
