    To be permitted to drive on the streets of Gurgaon, as per the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, all vehicle owners in the city need to have a valid driving license. In order to initiate the process of applying for a driving license in Gurgaon, the vehicle owner needs to first have a learner’s license. A month after being issued the learner’s license by an RTO in Gurgaon, the candidate can make the application for the driving license test. Candidates have to ensure that they take the driving license test within 180 days or 6 months from the date of issuance of the learner’s license - basically the validity period of the learner’s license document.

    Those applying for a driving license in Gurgaon can carry out the process at the RTO within their jurisdiction. The forms for the application, depending on the vehicle category can be downloaded either on the website of the State Transport of Haryana or from the website of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

    Types of driving licenses issued in Gurgaon

    Listed below are the types of driving licenses issued by the State Transport Department of Haryana:

    • Driving license for automatic vehicles with an engine capacity of 50cc or below.
    • Driving licenses for geared vehicles and for vehicles exceeding an engine capacity of 50cc.

    Eligibility criteria to apply for a four wheeler driving license in Gurgaon

    • For a vehicle that has an engine capacity of 50cc or less, the applicant has to at least be 16 years old and should provide a written consent from his/her parents or legal guardian permitting him/her to drive the vehicle.
    • For a light motor vehicle (gearless and geared), the candidate should be a minimum of 18 years old.
    • For a commercial vehicle or a transport vehicle driving license, the applicant has to be at least 20 years old.
    • The applicant should have been holding a learner’s license for at least 30 days to make the application.
    • The applicant for the driving license test should have sufficient knowledge of the road rules and regulations as set by the state and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

    Steps to apply for a driving license in Gurgaon

    Candidates applying for the permanent driving license test should follow the steps mentioned below to carry out the process at the RTO:

    • The candidate for a permanent driving license should visit the E-Disha Center in his/her jurisdiction and procure the application form. Form 5 is for transport and commercial vehicles,and Form 4 is for private vehicles.
    • The candidate has to fill in the application form, fix his/her recent passport-size photograph on it and self-attest the form.
    • He/she has to then submit the application form at the counter along with age proof, identity proof, and other relevant documents.
    • The officer will then verify the documents and if found legitimate, will request the candidate to make the payment for the application.
    • The candidate will now have to choose a slot for the driving test.
    • Lastly, the applicant will have to take the test on the allocated date and time.

    Online process:

    • Visit the online portal of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
    • Choose Haryana as the state the test will be taken in.
    • Click on ‘apply online’ and choose ‘new driving license’.
    • Enter your date of birth and learner’s license number to proceed.
    • Now, download the application form, fill the form and self-attest it.
    • On the portal, upload the form along with relevant identity and age proof documents. Upload recent passport-size photographs as well.
    • Using the application number, book a slot for the driving test.

    Documents required to apply for a four wheeler driving license in Gurgaon

    Applicants that wish to take the driving test in Gurgaon have to submit the documents mentioned below:

    • Application form.
    • Identity proof - Aadhaar card, Ration card, Voter ID card, etc.
    • Age proof - Birth certificate, Aadhaar card, Voter ID card, etc.
    • Medical certificate.
    • Passport-size photographs.
    • Registration certificate, valid insurance documents and pollution under control (PUC) certificate of the car/four wheeler that will be used to take the test.

    On completion of the test, the driving license candidate can check the status of his/her driving license at the RTO using the application token number or online on the website of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways using his/her learner’s license number or application number. If the candidate clears the test, the driving license documents will be delivered to his/her home address by the concerned RTO.
