    To be eligible to drive on the roads in the state of Rajasthan, vehicle owners need to have a valid permanent driving license according to the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. The driving license is issued to the candidate only once he/she clears the practical driving test. In order to be eligible for the driving license test, the applicant should have a learner’s license and only 30 days after the same has been issued can he/she apply for the test for the permanent driving license.

    Vehicle owners of private and commercial/transport vehicles in Rajasthan have the choice of applying for the driving license test online or offline. The offline process has to be carried out at the RTO within the jurisdiction of the applicant, while the online process can be carried out on the website of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

    Types of driving licenses issued in Rajasthan

    Listed below are the types of driving licenses issued by the Rajasthan State Transport Department:

    • Driving license for a vehicle without gears.
    • Driving license for a gearless vehicle below 50cc.
    • Driving license for a vehicle with gears.
    • Driving license for commercial and transport vehicles.
    • Driving license for a heavy goods vehicle.

    Eligibility criteria to apply for a four wheeler driving license in Rajasthan

    In order for four wheeler vehicle owners in the state of Rajasthan to be eligible to apply for the driving license test, they should meet the following requirements:

    • For a gearless vehicle above 50cc and for geared vehicles, the driving license applicant should be a minimum of 18 years old.
    • If the applicant wishes to apply for a driving license for a four wheeler commercial or transport vehicle, he/she should be at least 20 years old.
    • The driving license candidate can apply for a permanent driving licence only 30 days after having been issued a learner's licence. However,application for the same must be filled within 180 days of date of issuance of the learner's licence.
    • The candidate applying for the permanent driving license must have sufficient knowledge of the road rules set by the state transport department and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and be able take contol the vehicle.

    Steps to apply for a four wheeler driving license in Rajasthan

    As per the convenience of vehicle owners in Rajasthan, the application for the driving license test can be carried out either online or offline.

    Online process:

    • The candidate can download the application form for the driving license test either from the website of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways or from the Rajasthan State Transport website. For the driving test for private vehicles, Form 4 will have to be downloaded and for the commercial or transport vehicle driving license test, Form 5 will have to be downloaded.
    • The applicant has to then visit the official website of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways - https://parivahan.gov.in/sarathiservice8/newDL_display.do
    • Click on ‘online services’ and choose ‘new driving license’ from the drop down menu.
    • The applicant has to enter his/her date of birth, and learner’s license number and click on ‘ok’.
    • The candidate has to then fill in the downloaded application form and self-attest the form.
    • He/she can then upload the application form along with relevant documents (identity proof, age proof) and recent passport-size photographs.
    • The candidate has to then use the application number or learner’s license number and book a slot for the driving license test as per his/her convenience and the availability of slots.
    • The candidate has to be present at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) and submit the application form and relevant documents to the authorized personnel and pay the fees for the application before taking the practical test.

    Offline application:

    • For the offline procedure of applying for a driving license in Rajasthan, the candidate has to carry out the whole process in the RTO within his/her jurisdiction:
    • The candidate has to visit the RTO within his/her jurisdiction and procure the application form.Form 4 is ment for private vehicles while Form 5 is for transport/commercial driving vehicles.
    • The candidate has to then fill in the application form and ensure that it is self-attested.
    • The applicant has to then submit the application form, along with relevant documents and pay the fees for the application.
    • The Regional Transport Officer will then allot a slot for the four wheeler driving license test.
    • The applicant has to appear at the RTO on the day of the test, and submit all the required documents (including registration certificate, pollution under control certificate and insurance document of the vehicle), self-attested application form and then take the test.

    Documents required to apply for a four wheeler driving license in Rajasthan

    The applicant has to submit the below-listed documents to apply for a driving license in Rajasthan:

    • Application form - Form 5 for a commercial or transport vehicle driving license, From 4 for a private vehicle driving license.
    • Proof of identity – Aadhaar card, Voter ID card, Passport, etc.
    • Proof of age – Birth certificate, Passport, Voter ID card, etc.
    • Registration certificate of the vehicle/car that will be used for the test. If the vehicle is not owned by the applicant’s, he/she will have to submit a written consent from the owner of the vehicle.
    • Pollution under control (PUC) certificate and valid insurance document that will be used for the test.
    • Form 1a or Form 1 along with a medical certificate.
    • Original learner’s license document.
    • Recent passport-size photographs.

    If the driving license candidate clears the practical test, the Regional Transport Department will send the driving license document or smartcard to the candidate’s home address by post. Following the test, the applicant can check the status of his/her driving license on the website of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways using the application number or the learner’s license number.
