    If you own a vehicle, then according to The Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, it is mandatory to get it registered at a Regional Transport Office (RTO) in India. If you are a resident of Delhi or wish to drive it on the roads under the jurisdiction of Delhi Transport department, then it is mandatory to get your vehicle registered at the nearest RTO in Delhi. 

    There are various functions that an RTO has to carry out. Some of them include issuing driving license, issuing learner’s license if you are learning how to drive, issuing duplicate driving license, etc.  

    How to register your vehicle with an RTO in Delhi NCR? 

    You will have to visit the nearest RTO in Delhi NCR to get your vehicle registered. You will have to submit the required documents along with the registration fee, following which an official from the RTO will verify them. Once, the official is satisfied that all the details provided by you are authentic in nature, the RTO will send you the Registration Card (RC) via speed post to your residential address. 

    Documents required for vehicle registration in Delhi NCR RTO 

    Below is the list of documents that you will have to submit to an RTO in Delhi NCR: 

    • Form 20. 
    • Form 21 which states the details of both the buyer and the seller. 
    • Form 22 which is the roadworthiness certificate.  
    • Form 34 if the vehicle is on loan. The form must be duly signed by both the owner and the financer. 
    • PAN Card or Form 60, and Form 61 as applicable. 
    • Valid motor insurance policy document. 
    • Proof of address such as your passport, Aadhar Card, life insurance policy document, utility bills, etc. 
    • C.D parking fees. 
    • Road tax. 
    • Invoice from the dealer and the manufacturer. 

    Major functions of RTOs in Delhi NCR

    • Issuing and renewing driving license. 
    • Issuing duplicate driving license. 
    • Transfer of ownership of a vehicle from one person to another. 
    • Issuing No-Objection Certificate.

    Apart from vehicle registration, you can also use the services of an RTO for other functions such as applying for a driving license, getting your driving license renewed, applying for a duplicate driving license in case you lose your original driving license, paying challan and taxes, etc.
