The government has mentioned a set of rules under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 with regard to procedures and rules to be followed by vehicle owners. Some of the procedures include registration of a new vehicle and getting a driving licence before driving a car. RTOs are set up in each city to manage such transport-related functions in each area. Mysore, a city in Karnataka also has RTOs.
Mysore is the second largest city in Karnataka and is a popular tourist location in the state. The tourist attractions in the area include Chamundi Hill, Mysore Palace, Mysore Zoo, St. Philomena’s Church, Rail Museum, Sri Jayachamarajendra Art Gallery, etc. Royal traditions are practised even in the present day and Mysore Dasara is celebrated every year.

The services offered by the Mysore RTO such as applying for licence are going to be offered online on the Sarathi website. While the services were available in an earlier version of the website, individuals had to submit the required documents as well as physically sign the forms in order to go ahead with the procedure. In the new version, individuals will have to visit the RTO only for the driving test. The fee payment and online test can also be done from the comfort of one’s home.
RTOs are assigned with the responsibility to ensure the smooth function of the transport-related activities in each district. The offices take all the necessary measures to ensure the roads are safe and a proper database is maintained for all transport-related activities. The citizens are expected to apply for licence and registration to avoid paying fines or facing worse punishments. All vehicle owners are required to carry the registration certificate, motor insurance copy, and emission test certificate at all times.
