The Indian government has set up numerous RTOs in each state to make management of the transport database organised and convenient. All major cities in each state, including Nagpur, have at least one RTO. Their main duty is to make sure all the rules under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 are implemented.
Nagpur is an important industrial city in Maharashtra and produces oranges on a large scale. The city, rich in history, has many tourist attractions such as the Gavilgad Fort. Nagpur is also known for its fairs and festivals.
The transport department is responsible for carrying out necessary registrations and levying penalties on defaulters. Here are a few of the functions of the transport department in Nagpur:
Nagpur has 3 RTOs where individuals can avail any of the services offered at the RTO:

The state government of Maharashtra has asked the flying squad of the RTOs to install digital video recorders in their vehicles when they take action on overloaded vehicles. The squad will have to keep the video for records. Since carrying excess goods beyond the capacity is not permitted, officials will have to file an FIR against those who are found guilty.
It is important for every new car or bike owner to get his/her vehicle registered at the nearest RTO. No vehicle can be driven on Indian roads without the registration certificate, vehicle insurance, and emission test certificate. Anyone found to drive a vehicle without these will have to pay a fine. Hence, it is best to carry out the necessary procedures to avoid fines.
