    The Traditional Critical Illness Rider by DHFL Pramerica provides additional cover in case the policyholder is diagnosed with any of the ten conditions/critical illnesses or surgeries such as blindness, first heart attack of a specified severity, aorta surgery, among others.

    If individuals opt for this rider in additional to a traditional base policy, he/she will have to pay additional premium in addition to the premium that is being paid for the base policy.

    Eligibility - Who is the DHFL Pramerica Traditional Critical Illness (CI) Rider?

    In order to avail the Traditional Critical Illness (CI) Rider from DHFL Pramerica, policyholders will have to meet the following criteria.

    All ages are based on the last birthday of the policyholder.

    Sum Assured and Premium Range - What you get and what it costs?

    Sum Assured:

    Sum Assured under this rider plan will vary based on the premium, payment tenure and other factors.

    Sum Assured Minimum - Rs.50,000
    Maximum - 50% of the total of the monthly income that is payable t issue over the policy term. This amount is subject to a maximum of Rs.25 lakhs.

    Premium:

    The premium payment term will vary based on the term applicable to the bae policy. The base policy tenure is applicable or tenure until age of expiry, whichever is earlier.

    Customers should note that premiums would vary based on location, age, plan term and other factors.

    Plan Coverage - What the DHFL Pramerica Traditional Critical Illness (CI) Rider covers?

    The following conditions are covered by the Traditional Critical Illness Rider.

    Illness Details
    Aorta Surgery Surgery to correct or repair aneurysm, obstruction, narrowing or dissection of aorta via surgical opening of abdomen or chest.
    Blindness Complete, permanent and loss of sight in both eyes that is irrecoverable due to an accident or illness. This loss will have to be noted for a minimum of 6 months and deemed permanent by an Ophthalmologist who has been appointed by DPLI.
    Cancer (specified severity) A malignant tumour that is defined by uncontrolled growth along with spread of cells that are malignant along with destruction and invasion of normal tissues. This diagnosis must be confirmed by a certified pathologist. Cancer includes sarcoma, leukemia and lymphoma.
    Open Chest CABG The undergoing of open heart surgery for the purpose of correction of one or more coronary arteries that have been narrowed or blocked via CABG or Coronary Artery Bypass Graft is covered. Diagnosis will have to be supported by an angiography.
    First Heart Attack (specified severity) The very first occurrence of a myocardial infarction resulting in the death of a part of the heart muscle due to inadequate blood supply to the required area.
    Major Bone Marrow/Organ Transplant Undergoing of transplant of -
    • Heart, lung, kidney, liver or pancreas that has was due to irreversible end-stage failure of the relevant organ, or
    • Human bone marrow through the usage of haematopoietic stem cells.
    Permanent Limb Paralysis Irreversible and complete loss of usage of two or more limbs due to disease or injury to either the spinal cord or brain. This condition must not be present for over 3 months.
    Kidney Failure that requires regular dialysis Final stage renal disorder that is presented as a chronic failure of both kidneys that is irreversible.
    Stroke resulting in permanent symptoms A cerebrovascular that produces permanent neurological sequelae. This also includes thrombosis in intracranial vessel infarction of brain tissue, embolisation from an extracranial source or haemorrhage.
    Repair of Heart Valves or Open Heart Replacement Undergoing of an open-heart valve surgery in order to repair or replace one or more heart valves due to defective or abnormal cardiac valves.

    Exclusions - What the DHFL Pramerica Traditional Critical Illness (CI) Rider does not cover?

    Benefits or claims will not be entertained in case it is associated with either of the following, either voluntarily or involuntarily:

    • Pre-existing medical conditions
    • Illness related medical condition that manifests itself within a period of 90 days from risk commencement date.
    • Opportunistic diseases that are associated with AIDS or if the policyholder is infected with HIV.
    • Policyholder performing services in police, military or a similar organization.
    • Policyholder taking part in riots, strikes, internal disputes, etc.
    • Policyholder taking part in an illegal or criminal activity.
    • Suicide, self-inflicted injury or attempted suicide, whether insane or sane.
    • Nuclear radiation, contamination or reaction.
    • The policyholder being under the influence of drugs, narcotics, or alcohol.

    Other exclusions are illness specific, as listed below:

    Aorta Surgery Surgery that is performed via minimally invasive techniques or inter-arterial techniques is excluded.
    Cancer (specified severity)
    • Tumours that show malignant variations of carcinoma in situ and tumours.
    • Skin cancer with the exception of malignant melanoma.
    • Tumours of prostate unless having a gleason score of over 6.
    • Papillary micro-carcinoma of the thyroid that is less than one cm.
    • Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia less than rai stage 3.
    • Microcarcinoma of bladder.
    • Tumours in the presence of HIV.
    Open Chest CABG
    • Laser or keyhole surgery
    • Intra-arterial procedures or angioplasty
    First Heart Attack (specified severity)
    • New characteristic electrocardiogram changes
    • History of usual clinical symptoms that are consistent with Acute Myocardial Infarction.
    • Elevation of enzymes that are infarction specific, troponins or other specified biochemical markers.
    Major Bone Marrow/Organ Transplant
    • Stem-cell transplants
    • Excluded if only islets of langerhans are transplanted
    Stroke resulting in permanent symptoms
    • Transient ischemic attacks
    • Traumatic injury to the brain
    • Vascular disease that affects only the optic nerve or vestibular functions.
    Repair of Heart Valves or Open Heart Replacement Catheter dependent techniques including balloon valvuloplasty/valvotomy.

    Other Key Features – Freelook Period, Surrender Values, Grace Period etc.

    Waiting Period There will be no amount payable under this rider with respect to critical illness that is diagnosed within a period of 3 months from date of reinstatement or issue of policy.
    Survival Period The benefit will be paid only if the policyholder survives for a period of a minimum of 30 days from date of critical illness diagnosis.
