Add-on covers on HDFC ERGO car insurance policy

HDFC ERGO insurance plans provide a comprehensive variety of add-on covers that ensure the best protection for your prized possession. The covers enhance your protection and reduce the chances of out-of-pocket expenses. Below are the covers provided:

  • Loss of use or downtime protection-This cover ensures that the policyholder does not spend any money out of his/her own pocket when the car is damaged. Reimbursement will be made for an alternative mode of transport taken when the car is undergoing repairs. A sum of up to Rs.500 per day will be provided for 5 days in case of partial loss and 15 days in case of total loss or theft.
  • Zero depreciation claim-Policyholders will be eligible to avail the full claim amount at the time of an unfortunate event. However, this is excluding the cost of repair or replacement of tyres or batteries. All car parts excluded under the India Motor Tariff policy will be covered under this add-on.
  • Engine and gear box protection- This add-on covers the cost of repair and replacement of internal parts of the gearbox or engine. Damages may be caused due to water ingression, any leakages of lubricating oil, etc. A claim can be made under the own damage section of the policy for this add-on.
  • No claim bonus-Even if a claim has been registered during the policy year, the policyholder will be eligible for no claim bonus. This benefit can be availed even after 3 claims are made if damage has been caused to the windshield glass or losses arising through external means, flood or earthquake.
  • The cost of consumables-This add-on covers any losses arising out of damage caused to consumable items in the car, provided they are covered under section 1 of the policy statement.
  • Emergency assistance cover-Emergency assistance services are provided for on-site repairs, battery jumpstart, duplicate keys, tyre change, locked or lost keys, fuel delivery, towing assistance or emptying of fuel tank.

Insured Declared Value

  • The Insured declared value (IDV) of the car will be the total amount of sum insured towards the policy. This is fixed at the time of the policy issued.
  • IDV for cars that are more than 5 years old or obsolete models will be determined based on a certain understanding between the insurer and insured.
  • IDV will be considered as the market value through the policy period without depreciation for total loss or constructive total loss claims.
  • The insured car will be treated as a constructive total loss claim if the total retrieval cost or repair cost exceeds 75% of the car IDV.
  • IDV will be ascertained based on the listing price of the manufacturer’s brand, model, and depreciation. Please refer to the below sample table for details:

It is quite easy and simple to file a claim on the HDFC ERGO car insurance policy. Download the HDFC ERGO mobile app and log on to the Insurance Portfolio Organizer through Google play store. Once this is done, you just have to fill in some basic details to link your policy account with the mobile app and you can register your claim instantaneously. Calls can also be made on the company's toll-free number to register a claim. There are a few important guidelines that need to be followed while filing a claim. Below are the details:

  • Always ensure an FIR is filed as soon as possible in case of damages to property, theft or bodily injury.
  • In case of a serious accident, it is always better to inform the insurance company immediately so that the insurers can come to the accident spot for inspection and ascertain the value of damage.
  • In cases of serious injuries, death, third party damage, riots, strikes, the incident must be reported immediately to the nearest police station.
