Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) is a system designed by the government of India to provide medical insurance to workers of the organised sector of India. The scheme not only provides health cover for the insured person but also his/her family members too. The insured individuals and families are eligible for a variety of benefits such as medical benefit, disablement benefit, maternity benefit, sickness benefit, dependent benefit, etc. The objective of ESIC is to provide financial aid to the working population as well as their immediate family members.

    ESIC contribution

The employer and the employee, both, pay a certain percentage of the wage payable as the ESIC contribution. The percentage is specified by the Corporation. The contribution periods and cash benefit period of the ESIC scheme are as given below:

    Contribution period:

    • April 1 to September 30
    • October 1 to March 31

    Cash benefit period:

    • January 1 to June 31
    • July 1 to December 31

Earlier, the only mode of payment for the ESIC contribution was payment in an authorised branch of State Bank of India or any other designated bank. However, the online mode of payment has now been introduced to provide a smooth and convenient payment option.
