    News About ESIC Portal

    • Employees State Insurance Scheme Benefits To Remain Unaffected By Contribution Rate Cuts

According to reports, there have been some cuts in the contribution rate towards the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC). Following this cut, Union Minister, Mr. Santosh Kumar Gangwar, has assured that the contribution rate cut in the scheme shall not, in any way, affect the benefits to be received by those insured under the scheme, while emphasizing that sufficient funds lie with Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC).

The contribution towards the ESI was recently reduced from 6.5% to 4%. In light of this, empployers have to now contribute 3.25% of salary that is payable to an employee, while the contribution of the employee is now set at 0.75%, instead of the previous rate of 1.75%. These revised cuts in contribution came into effect starting 1 July 2019.

Speaking ahead of the announcement of the rate cuts, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment also mentioned that this move is sure to aid in lowering the burden on not only employers but also employees. It will also help in increased compliance of the ESI scheme, improve its coverage, and also help in bringing about more ease of conducting business. Mr. Gangwar assured that all those who are insured under the scheme, as well as their family members, shall continue to receive all benefits under the scheme.
