Policyholders can avail the cashless facility in network hospitals of the insurer. The cashless facility allows insured individuals to receive treatment from the hospital without having to foot the bills themselves. The cashless hospitalisation feature offered by the insurer allows the Third-party administrator (TPA), on behalf of the insurance company, to settle the hospital bills at the time of discharge. A claim for cashless hospitalisation can be raised for any of the expenses admissible as per the policy. According to the policy, only treatments that require hospitalisation for more than 24 hours or certain day-care procedures, mentioned in the policy, which do not require 24 hours of hospitalisation are covered.
Each policyholder has the freedom to avail the cashless facility in any of the network hospitals. The policyholder is required to notify the TPA prior to hospitalisation. He/she needs to provide proof of insurance and proof of identity. After the claim is accepted by the TPA, the payment for the treatment will be made directly to the insured.
If a claim has been raised for a treatment that is not covered under the policy, the TPA may reject the claim. In some cases, if the TPA or the insurer have doubts with respect to the admissibility of the claim, the cashless facility might be denied. However, under such circumstances, the insured individual can pay the hospital bills and request for a reimbursement later.
The expenses incurred on hospitalisation, for health conditions that are covered by the policy, are paid by the insurer/TPA. The maximum amount payable is equal to the sum insured of the policy. In case the hospital bill exceeds the sum insured, you will have to pay the rest of the bill.
The TPA or the insurer, on certain significant doubts, may reject the claim for cashless facility. You can, however, pay the bills yourself and submit the bills and other necessary documents for a reimbursement of the expenses incurred.

The cashless hospitalisation feature is offered only in hospitals that are empanelled with the insurer. The cashless facility will not be provided in all hospitals. You can opt for a reimbursement of the expenses in such cases.
You are free to change the hospital if you need better treatment that is not available in the hospital you are hospitalised in. The TPA will evaluate the merits of the situation as per the policy terms.
