    The Janata Personal Accident Policy from National Insurance is a health insurance policy that covers the policyholder from any injuries resulting from external violent accidents. It allows the insured to claim the sum insured in case he/she suffers an injury or disability, directly or indirectly, due to an accident. The injury will be covered if the disability is suffered within 12 months of occurrence of the accident. Group discounts are available for group policies. The policy term can go up to 5 years.

    Eligibility of Janata Personal Accident Policy

    The insurer specifies certain age restrictions for purchasing the policy.

    Minimum age at entry 10 years
    Maximum age at entry 70 years

    Sum Insured and Premium

    Sum Insured

    Sum insured is the total amount the policyholder can claim from the insurer when medical attention is required.

    Minimum sum insured Rs.25,000
    Maximum sum insured Rs.1 lakh

    Premium

    Premium is the nominal payment made by the policyholder towards the sum insured.

    Features of National Insurance Janata Personal Accident Policy

    • The complete sum insured will be provided to the nominees on the death of the policyholder.
    • The insured will be provided with the complete sum insured if he/she loses his/her hands or feet or loses sight of both eyes. The same applies to the loss of one eye and one limb.
    • If the policyholder loses either one of the eyes, or one limb, he/she can claim 50% of the sum insured.
    • A lump sum equal to 100% of the sum insured will be provided to the insured if there has been complete disablement of the insured.

    Benefits of National Insurance Janata Personal Accident Policy

    Free-look period The policyholder has a 15-day free-look period during which he/she can ascertain if the policy is suitable for him/her. If the policy is found unsatisfactory, he/she can return the policy and the premiums paid will be refunded, unless the insurer has incurred expenses towards any medical examinations or stamp charges. If a claim has been made during the free-look period and the policy is returned post the claim, the claim amount will be deducted from the refund amount.
    Grace period A grace period of 30 days, starting from the premium due date, allows the policyholder to make the payment or renew the policy without the loss of benefits. No coverage will be available in case no premium is paid.

    Exclusions of National Insurance Janata Personal Accident Policy

    • Death or disability arising as a result of a disability that existed before the issue of the policy.
    • Intentional self-injury or injury from attempted suicide.
    • Any injury from abuse of alcohol, drugs or intoxicating substances.
    • Any injury caused by insanity or a venereal disease.
    • Any injury resulting from racing, mountaineering, big game hunting or winter sports like ice hockey and skiing.
    • Any injury resulting from an activity that is classified as a breach of law.
    • Any injury resulting from war, invasion, or acts of foreign enemies.
    • Any injury caused by nuclear weapons or materials.
