    Star Cardiac Care is a disease-specific insurance policy designed for the requirements of people with various cardiac ailments. This policy is specifically for people who have undergone treatment for existing cardiac diseases. This health insurance policy comes in two variants and offers a range of benefits for policyholders. In addition to offering hospitalisation benefits, Star Cardiac Care also offers cover for a range of day-care treatments.

    Eligibility For Star Cardiac Care Insurance Policy

    The eligibility criteria for Star Cardiac Care Insurance Policy can be listed as follows.

    • The entry age of the policy must be between 10 years and 65 years.
    • People who have undergone Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA) or Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) within 7 years prior to the date of commencement of the first policy period are eligible.
    • People who have undergone correction treatment for Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) or Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) are eligible.
    • People who have been treated for Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) are eligible.
    • People who have undergone RF Ablation done to treat any underlying cardiac condition are eligible.
    • People who have had an angiogram, but for whom medical intervention was not found to be necessary, are also eligible.

    Sum Insured & Premium Charges

    Star Cardiac Care Insurance Policy comes with two sum insured options - Rs. 3 lakh and Rs.4 lakh. This policy has two different plans namely Silver and Gold. Premium charges for this policy vary based on the age of the insured person. As mentioned in the eligibility, the maximum entry age is restricted to 65 years. However, lifelong renewal option is available with this policy.

    The premium charges mentioned above are exclusive of taxes at 18%.

    Features Of Star Cardiac Care Insurance Policy

    Some of the key features of Star Cardiac Care can be given as follows.

    • There is no pre-acceptance medical examination required for this policy. However, all medical records associated with the cardiac treatment of the insured must be submitted to the company.
    • For all cardiac related ailments, pre-existing diseases are covered from the 91st day of the commencement of the policy.
    • For non cardiac ailments, pre-existing diseases are covered after 48 months of continuous policy coverage.
    • Pre-hospitalisation medical expenses incurred up to 30 days prior to the date of hospitalisation are covered. Post-hospitalisation medical expenses are covered for up to 60 days from the date of discharge.
    • This policy covers treatment for up to 405 day-care procedures.
    • For policyholders above 60 years of age, 10% copayment is mandatory for every claim made.
    • The sum insured amount of the policy can be enhanced at the time of renewal. However, this is subject to certain exclusions.
    • A grace period of 30 days is available for the renewal of this policy from the date of expiry. Any illnesses contracted during this grace period will be considered as pre-existing, and these diseases are subject to the waiting period for pre-existing diseases given in the policy schedule.
    • A free-look period of 15 days is available with Star Cardiac Care to return the policy if the terms are not satisfactory.
    • Portability option is available with this cover, and it can be transferred to any other insurer operating in India. The company must be given a notification of at least 45 days before the date of renewal.
    • The premium amount paid for this policy is exempt from income taxes as per Section 80D of the Income Tax Act of 1961.

    Exclusions From Star Cardiac Care Insurance Policy

    The following list of exclusions apply to Star Cardiac Care Insurance Policy.

    • All diseases contracted within the first 30 days of commencement of the policy
    • Diseases such as cataract, thyroid, prolapse of intervertebral disc, varicose veins, benign tumours, hydrocele, etc. for the first 2 years of the policy
    • Congenital external diseases, birth defects, and anomalies
    • All kinds of cosmetic or aesthetic treatments
    • Dental surgery or treatment unless necessitated by an accident
    • Convalescence, general debility, run-down condition, etc.
    • Treatment related to pregnancy, childbirth, birth control, abortion, miscarriage, etc.
    • Treatment related to refractive error correction of the eye
    • Cost of medical aids such as walkers, crutches, wheelchairs, spectacles, contact lens, cochlear implants, etc.
    • Injuries or diseases arising out of war or warlike activities
    • Injuries or diseases arising out of nuclear weapons or radioactivity
    • Expenses related to the treatment of HIV, venereal diseases, or sexually transmitted diseases
    • Injuries arising out of the insured person’s participation in illegal activities
    • Expenses related to stem cell therapy, implantation, immunotherapy, chondrocyte, etc.
    • Expenses related to naturopathy treatment or any unproven experimental therapies
    • Expenses related to hospital registration, admission, telephone, and other convenience charges
    • Death or injuries arising out of participation in various sporting activities

    Claim Procedure For Star Cardiac Care Insurance Policy

    The claim process for Star Cardiac Care is similar to the claim process for most other policies offered by the company. The company’s 24-hour helpline can be contacted anytime to clear any doubts about the policy. While contacting the helpline, the insured must provide the policy number and ID for easy reference. For planned hospitalisation, the insurer must be notified at least 24 hours before the time of hospitalisation. For emergency hospitalisation, the insurer must be notified within 24 hours after hospitalisation.

    Cashless treatment facility is also available with the network hospitals associated with the company. To avail this facility, the insured must provide the policy details to the hospital at the time of admission. The insurer must also be notified while availing this facility. For other claims, the insured must submit various documents (medical bills, reports, certificates, etc.) for the proof of hospitalisation. Once these documents are submitted, the insurer will verify the validity of the claim. Following verification and approval, the compensation amount will be paid to the insured.
