    The Star Unique Health Insurance Policy is a one-of-a-kind insurance plan that provides policyholders coverage for future ailments/conditions and also pre-existing diseases. While most insurance plans come with a waiting period between 2 and 6 years for pre-existing ailments, Star Health Insurance offers coverage for such diseases from the 11th month of the policy tenure. This policy comes with a range of benefits, which can help reduce one’s financial burdens in the event of an unplanned hospitalisation.

    Eligibility Criteria for Star Unique Health Insurance Policy

    Policyholders will have to meet the predefined eligibility criteria set by the insurance firm in order to purchase the policy.

    • Any individual between the ages of 18 years and 65 years can purchase this policy.
    • Lifetime renewability is offered for this plan.
    • Only individuals residing within India can purchase this policy.

    Sum Insured and Premium Range

    Sum Insured: The sum insured is the maximum amount of money that the insurer is liable to pay to the insured member in the event of a hospitalisation.

    Minimum Sum Insured Rs.1 lakh
    Maximum Sum Insured Rs.3 lakh

    Premium: Premiums for the Star Unique Health Insurance Policy will have to be paid in 2 instalments. The policy buyer will have to pay the first instalment when purchasing the policy and the second instalment at the commencement of the second policy year. It is important to note that your premium rates will vary as per your sum insured, age at the time of purchasing the policy, location, and other factors.

    Features of Star Unique Health Insurance Policy

    • Pre-existing diseases will be covered under this plan post 11 months of coverage.
    • The plan comes with a policy tenure of 2 years.
    • Policyholders can claim tax deductions for premiums paid under Section 80D of the Income Tax Act, 1961.
    • Prospective policy buyers need not go through a pre-policy medical screening in order to purchase this policy.
    • This policy comes with a grace period of 30 days, within which it will have to be renewed.
    • The sum insured can be enhanced/modified at the time of renewal.
    • Policyholders can cancel their policy at any time during the policy tenure. The proportionate premium will be refunded to the policyholder.
    • The policy comes with a 15-day free-look period, during which time one can return the policy if they find the terms and conditions unsatisfactory.
    • This insurance policy can be ported to a different insurance firm.
    • HIV+ individuals can also purchase this policy. However, this plan will not cover treatments that are specifically for AIDS/HIV.
    • Non-allopathic treatments up to 25% of the entire sum insured amount and a maximum of Rs.25,000 will be covered during each policy year.
    • If one is undergoing a planned hospitalisation, the insurer will have to be intimated at least 24 hours before the intended date of admission into the hospital. In case of an emergency hospitalisation, the insurer will have to be intimated within 24 hours of being hospitalised.
    • Cashless hospitalisation can be availed at any one of the 6,000 plus network hospitals across the country.

    Room, Boarding, and Nursing Expenses Up to 1% of the sum insured, provided it is within Rs.3,000, will be covered per day
    Intensive care unit charges Up to 2% of the sum insured per day

    Pre-Hospitalisation Expenses Will be covered for 30 days prior to the actual date of hospital admission

    Exclusions under Star Unique Health Insurance Policy

    • Pre-existing diseases during the first 11 months of the policy year, and illnesses/diseases during the first 30 days.
    • Specific illnesses during the first 2 years.
    • 30% of the admissible hospitalisation expenses will be excluded as co-pay.
    • Any disease or injury as a result of war or nuclear contamination.
    • Aesthetic treatments, circumcision, plastic surgery, cost of spectacles/lenses, crutches, hearing aids, dental treatment, naturopathy treatment, weight-loss treatments, etc.
    • General debility, convalescence, psychosomatic disorders, infertility, congenital external defects, self-injury, etc.
    • Expenses incurred while directly treating AIDS/HIV.
    • Hospitalisation expenses incurred due to HTLV-III or LAV.
    • Expenses incurred for vitamins, tonics, non-medical expenses, Lasik laser, etc.
    • Pregnancy, miscarriage, abortions, etc.
    • Charges incurred for diagnostics, laboratory examinations, and X-rays that are not consistent with the final diagnosis and treatment.
