    Star Super Surplus Insurance Policy is a top up health insurance cover that offers larger coverage than a basic health insurance plan. With the unpredictable nature of medical expenses, a top up cover can provide extra protection against complex ailments and diseases. The extra coverage offered by this plan helps policyholders stay prepared for a range of unexpected eventualities. This coverage comes in two different plans namely silver and gold. Both these plans come with a lot of flexibility and provide multiple options for the insured. This cover can be availed either as an individual cover or as a family floater cover. Family floater covers can be taken only for self, spouse, and dependent children (under 25 years of age).

    Eligibility For Star Super Surplus Insurance Policy

    • Entry age for the policy must be between 18 years and 65 years.
    • Dependent children between the ages of 3 months to 25 years can be covered provided both their parents are covered in this policy.

    Sum Insured & Premium Charges

    There is a mandatory deductible applicable for each hospitalisation when filing for a claim under Star Super Surplus Insurance Policy. The claim amount payable by the company is only in excess of the chosen deductible. The sum insured and deductible options available under the Silver and Gold plans are as follows.

    For individual plans, premium charges for the silver plan are fixed at Rs.3,000 and Rs.4,000 (excluding tax) for sum insured options of Rs.7 lakh and Rs.10 lakh respectively. For the gold plan, the premium charges are influenced by various factors such as sum insured chosen, deductible opted, and age of the family members.

    For Star Super Surplus (Floater) Insurance Policy, the size of the family is also taken into consideration while determining premium charges.

    Features Of Star Super Surplus Insurance Policy

    Some of the major features of Star Super Surplus Insurance Policy can be listed as follows.

    • This policy is available on an individual basis or on a family floater basis.
    • There is no pre-acceptance medical examination required to subscribe to this policy cover.
    • Pre-hospitalisation medical expenses for up to 30 days and post-hospitalisation medical expenses for up to 60 days are covered under this policy.
    • All kinds of illnesses and diseases have a waiting period of 30 days from the date of commencement of the policy.
    • All pre-existing medical conditions are covered after 36 months of continuous policy coverage.
    • In gold plan, insured persons entering the policy after 60 years of age must co-pay 10% of the claim amount.
    • A grace period of 30 days is available for policyholders to renew the policy after the date of expiry.
    • The sum insured opted can be enhanced at the time of renewal subject to the condition that no claim was made under the policy.
    • The premium amount paid towards this policy is eligible for income tax relief under Section 80D of the Income Tax Act. However, this relief is not available when the payment is made through cash.
    • There is a 15-day free look period available during which time the policy can be returned without incurring any charge.
    • Portability option is also available under this policy. The insured must notify the company at least 45 days before the renewal date in order to transfer the policy to another insurer.
    • The policy will automatically terminate following the death of the insured person or the exhaustion of the sum insured under the policy.

    Exclusions From Star Super Surplus Insurance Policy

    For policyholders covered under Star Super Surplus, the following list of exclusions apply.

    • Intentional self-injury, suicide, or attempt to suicide
    • Treatment related circumcision, inoculation, and vaccination
    • Treatment for congenital external diseases, birth defects, and anomalies
    • Injuries caused by war or warlike activities
    • Dental treatment and dental surgery of any kind unless necessitated by an accident
    • Injuries or illnesses arising out of nuclear weapons and radioactivity
    • Venereal diseases, HIV, and sexually transmitted diseases
    • Injuries occurred while under the influence of alcohol or drugs
    • Any treatment related to mental or behavioral disorders
    • Expenses related to convalescence, general debility, and run-down condition
    • Treatment related to pregnancy, birth control, abortion, and miscarriage
    • Expenses related to weight management and obesity treatment
    • Treatment performed through systems of medicines other than allopathy
    • All kinds of cosmetic and aesthetic treatments
    • Cost of spectacles, contact lens, wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, cochlear implants, hearing aids, etc.

    Claim Procedure

    Claim procedure for Star Super Surplus Insurance Policy is relatively simple. The company’s 24-hour helpline can be contacted anytime. Policyholders must provide their ID and policy number in order to obtain specific information about their policies. For planned hospitalisation, the insurer must be notified 24 hours before admission in the hospital. For emergency hospitalisation, the insurer must be notified within 24 hours after admission.

    Cashless treatment facility is available in the company’s network hospitals. The insured must provide their policy number and identity proof in order to avail this facility. For other claims, the insured has to submit a list of documents related to various hospitalisation expenses. Once the claim form and related documents are submitted, the insurer will initiate the validation process. Compensation amount will be provided following the verification of all claims. Since there are no third-party administrators involved, the claim process is direct and hassle-free.
