    Although you are not required to apply for a new driving licence if you are relocating to another city or state, your driving licence should still reflect your current address. To change the address in your driving licence, you are required to submit an application for the same to a Regional Transport Office (RTO) in your jurisdiction. Read on for more information on how to change the address in your driving licence.

    Procedure to Change Your Address in Your Driving Licence

    To change your address in your driving licence, you will need to follow the steps mentioned below:

    • If you have relocated to another state, you will need to visit the RTO that originally issued your driving licence and obtain a NOC from the Registering Authority.
    • Next, you will need to visit an RTO in your jurisdiction and submit the application form along with the required documents.
    • Once you have completed the above-mentioned formalities, the Licencing Authority will verify your application form and documents.
    • You will also have to pay the applicable fee as per Rule 81 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
    • If your application is approved, you will be given an acknowledgement, after which you will receive your driving licence with the updated address.

    Documents Required

    The documents that you will need to submit to get your address changes in your driving licence are as follows:

    • Application form (Form 33)
    • Vehicle’s certificate of registration
    • Valid insurance certificate of the vehicle
    • Proof of your new address
    • Vehicle’s Pollution under Control (PUC) certificate
    • NOC from the financier/lender (applicable in cases of hypothecation)
    • Attested copy of your PAN card or Form 60 and Form 61, as applicable
    • Chassis and engine pencil print
    • Vehicle owner’s signature identification
    • Recent passport-size photographs
    • Applicable fee
    • Smart card fee

    *Note: The documents that are required to update the address in one’s driving licence varies from state to state. Thus, make sure to check what documents you are required to submit with the nearest RTO in your city of residence.

    After completion of the above-mentioned procedure, your new driving licence will be sent to you within a period of 30 days.
