A driving licence, which is issued by an RTO in the country, is mandatory to have if you want to legally operate a motor vehicle in India. If you reside in Assam, you will need to get your driving licence issued by a District Transport Officer. Residents of Assam can apply for their driving licences through online or offline channels.
The eligibility criteria that you will need to meet to apply for a driving licence in Assam are as follows:
Residents of Assam can apply for a driving licence online through the official website of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways or by visiting a District Transport Office (DTO) or Regional Transport Office (RTO) in your jurisdiction.
First, you will need to visit the website of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (Sarathi). You will need to select the state at which you reside. Online services are only available to residents of select states.
Once you have selected the state that you reside in, you will be redirected to another webpage, where you will need to click on ‘Apply Online’ and select the type of licence that you wish to apply for.
Next, you will need to key in certain details about yourself into the online application form, upload the necessary documents, and upload passport-size photographs and a signature of yourself (if applicable). You will then be able to book a slot for your test and pay the applicable fee.
