How to Apply for a Driving Licence in Kerala

The process to apply for a driving licence in Kerala is as follows:

    Apply for a Learner’s Licence:

To get a driving licence, you will need to first apply for a learner’s licence. To obtain a learner’s licence, you will have to clear a computer-based test. The test will test your knowledge of signs and signals, road rules, road manners, etc. If you clear this test successfully, you will be granted a learner’s licence, which will be valid for 6 months. The date of the driving test, which you will need to clear to obtain the permanent driving licence, will be mentioned in the learner’s licence. If you fail the test, you can retake the test on any other working day after paying a fee of Rs.30.

    Apply for a Driving Licence:

If you have held your learner’s licence for more than 30 days, you can apply for a driving licence. You will need to obtain the driving licence application form, fill it up with the required details, and submit it along with your learner’s licence when appearing for the road test.

The driving test is conducted in two parts in Kerala. In the first part of the test, your efficiency and skill in controlling the vehicle will be examined. Thus, if you are applying for a driving licence to ride a two-wheeler or a three-wheeler, you will be asked to ride your vehicle through an ‘8’-shaped track. For four-wheelers, the applicant will be asked to drive through an ‘H’-shaped track. In the second part of the test, your driving skills will be tested.

If you happen to clear the test, an acknowledgement coupon will be issued to you immediately. The driving licence card will be sent to you within one week of you clearing the test.
