Returning you to where you were...
Your two-wheeler can say a lot about your preferences, personality, and status. Given this, many individuals who purchase vehicles for themselves choose to get special registration numbers. These registration numbers may be considered auspicious or lucky by the vehicle owner, might have a personal significance to the individual, or might be chosen simply to make the vehicle stand out.
To get a special registration number, also called a fancy number or a VIP registration number, vehicle owners usually have to shell out an additional sum of money. Since the demand for VIP registration numbers is usually quite high, most states, including Goa, conduct an auction, through which interested vehicle owners can bid for registration numbers of their choice.
It is necessary for all vehicles to have an attached number plate at all times. The alphabets and digits on a number plate can denote certain important things. For example, the first two alphabets on the number plate represent the union territory/state in which the two-wheeler was registered. Thus, two-wheelers registered in Goa will begin with a “GA”. The next two digits represent the code of the particular district in which the vehicle was registered. This number can also denote the local RTO code. The third part of the number plate, usually consisting of two alphabets and four digits that range between 0001 and 9999, is the vehicle’s unique registration number. The registration number of a vehicle is what can be customised/purchased by vehicle owners. Thus, vehicle owners can pay to get registration numbers of their choice. The last component of a number plate is a holographic logo with the letters “IND” imprinted under the logo.

A registration mark or number is unique to every vehicle. The Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 makes it mandatory for every vehicle to be registered and have a number plate with the registration number. A two-wheeler that doesn’t have a registration mark cannot be used in public places. For this reason, it is mandatory for vehicle buyers to get registration numbers, either VIP numbers or regular registration numbers, as soon as they purchase the vehicle.
A registration number will help in protecting your vehicle from theft and identifying it. In addition to this, it is also necessary for you, as a vehicle owner, to purchase a two-wheeler insurance policy for your vehicle. You can choose a basic third-party liability-only insurance cover or a comprehensive insurance policy. Further, you can also enhance the basic coverage provided by your two-wheeler insurance plan by purchasing add-ons.
