    Two-wheelers is the most popular way of transport across the world. And Indian Market is a booming opportunity for every two-wheeler manufacturer. India is one of the top countries where two-wheeler vehicles are consumed in such large numbers. From carrying goods to commuting for daily work and long bike rides, it is the go-to vehicle for Indians. The thrill and excitement of buying a bike with one’s own money is just enthralling. But to make it feel more special, you can always up the ante by registering your vehicle with a fancy or VIP number that would make the heads turn when you ride.

    Having a fancy two-wheeler registration number can mean different things to different people. For few it is religious belief, for few it is a luxury and fore few it is lucky charm. And this attitude is no different in the Telangana state. Though both Telangana and Seemandhra were once unitedly known as Andhra Pradesh, both the states have their own identity of being different. But the law and order remains the same in most categories especially for Transport Department. The rules are followed and applied as they were written when the state was known as Andhra Pradesh. Therefore, the registration process for vehicles also remain the same. In Telangana, the fancy registration numbers process has been digitised.

    Considering the number of sales of two-wheelers in the recent years, it can be believed that there is no dearth of people who are willing to spend a little extra for registration number to feel more special about their bike. It is believed by many that a registration number speaks volumes about the person who owns the bike.

    If you reside in Telangana State, here is all you need to know about fancy number registration process:

    • You can always get the vehicle registration number that is generated through a standard computerised process, if you do not want a special number.
    • If you wish to own a VIP registration number for your vehicle in Telangana, first you have to submit an application Form RRMA to obtain a fancy vehicle registration number.
    • Once the RTO in that zone receives the application, the authorities will call the application alphabetically every day and assign the registration numbers as per the rules.
    • The RTO reserves fancy numbers as per the demand and popularity from 001 to 9999. The numbers will be distributed serially, after the last number in the order on the date of application was assigned.
    • Applicable registration fee along with the cost of a specific VIP number is to be paid via Demand Draft to the Secretary of Regional Transport Authority of the district.

    The Allotment Process:

    • All the applications for special registration number will be dropped in a sealed drop box at 1:00 p.m., (no more applications will be accepted after this time).
    • If there are more than 1 applicant for the same registration number, then the number would be allotted through bidding or auctioning. This allotment process will be carried out in a closed envelope along with RRMTA application form.
    • If the desired number is up for auction, the applicant must submit a Demand Draft to the Secretary of Regional Transport Authority of the District with applicable fee for auctioning within 3:00 p.m. on the same day.
    • The applicant must be present to bid when it is called, if he/she is not present then the application will be forfeited with no refund.
    • The bidding amount should be higher than the amount set by the RTO. On completion, the registration number will be allotted to the highest bidder according to the sub rule (3) (i), (ii) & (iii).
    • Once you have won the auction for the desired number, the vehicle should be produced in front of the RTO officer within 15 days of the auction completion. If the applicant fails to do so, then the number will be cancelled for allotment and will be put back on list for re-allotment.
    • Any registration number running in the current series can be reserved for Rs.1000.

    Two-wheeler registration process in Telangana:

    The new two-wheeler registration process should be completed within 7 days from the date of purchase of the vehicle. The following documents must be submitted to the concerned authority at the RTO:

    • A duplicate of sales certificate in Form 21
    • Duplicate of road worthiness certificate from the manufacturer in Form 22
    • Active two wheeler insurance policy copy
    • Pollution Under Control certificate copy
    • Identity Proof like AADHAAR, Voter ID, Driver License, PAN, etc.
    • Address Proof like rental agreement, ration card, electricity bill, BSNL landline telephone bill, etc.
    • Tax payment fee as per APMVT Act
    • Applicable registration fee as mentioned in Rule 81 of CMV Rules
    • Custom duty clearance certificate if the vehicle is imported
    • If it is an ex-Army vehicle, the original sales certificate from the concerned authorities in Form 21

    Renewal of Registration Certificate:

    • Form 25 application with applicable fee to submitted 60 days before the expiry
    • Vehicle inspection clearance certificate
    • Original RC
    • Pollution Under Control Certificate
    • Copy of valid two wheeler insurance policy
    • ID and Address proof

    Documents required for duplicate vehicle Registration Certificate:

    Duplicate RC can be availed only if the original RC is misplaced or lost. Here are the documents required for duplicate Registration Certificate:

    • FIR copy
    • Valid two wheeler insurance copy
    • Duplicate of Pollution Under Control Certificate
    • Address proof
    • Road tax payment receipts
    • Form 26
    • Attested copy of PAN or Form 60

    Please Note: For every city, the RTO will be divided according to zones like Central, North, West, East and South. So enquire with the concerned authority about this process and where to submit if this is not available in that particular RTO.
