    As per the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, it is compulsory to register a two-wheeler before driving it anywhere in India.     Residents of Uttar Pradesh can visit the RTOs at their nearest location and get access to the necessary services.

    List of documents needed for new vehicle registration:

    The vehicle has to be registered within 7 days from the date of purchase at the RTO of that jurisdiction. The documents needed are:

    • Form 20
    • Form 22 issued by the dealer
    • Form 21, sales certificate issued by the dealer
    • Motor insurance policy
    • Address proof mentioned in Driver License, Voter ID, etc.
    • Form-A under Taxation Act, 1977
    • Temporary registration certificate, if any
    • Applicable fee as specified in Rule 81
    • Passport size photos
    • Physical presence of the vehicle
    • Customs duty clearance certificate, if the vehicle is imported

    Renewal of RC:

    The original RC is valid only for 15 years. Hence you should renew the RC before its expiry:

    • Written application with applicant’s signature seeking RC renewal
    • Form 25
    • Original RC
    • Motor insurance certificate
    • Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate
    • Fee payment receipt
    • Address proof as mentioned on any government sanctioned ID
    • Physical presence of the vehicle

    Documents required for issuing duplicate RC:

    If you have lost the RC or misplaced it, apply for duplicate RC as soon as possible. File a complaint at the nearest police station regarding the same and obtain a copy of the FIR. Documents needed are:

    • Form 26
    • Motor Insurance copy
    • Fee payment receipt
    • Copy of FIR
    • An affidavit mentioning the loss of RC and has not been impounded

    Transfer of ownership:

    If you have purchased a vehicle from another person, then all the documents, including the motor insurance policy of the vehicle, will have to be transferred to your name. Documents needed:

    • Form 29 and 30
    • Original RC
    • Insurance certificate in the name of the purchaser
    • Passport size photo of seller and purchaser
    • Tax clearance certificate
    • NOC from the financier
    • NOC from the RTO authority where the vehicle was originally registered, if the registration was done in other states.
    • Applicable fee as per Rule-81

    Transfer of ownership in case of death of the owner:

    The legal heir or the successor of the bike, has to submit the following documents to transfer the vehicle ownership to his/her name:

    • Death certificate of the registered owner and proof of relation
    • Original RC
    • Motor insurance
    • Proof of succession
    • Passport size photo
    • Form 31

    For vehicles purchased in public auction:

    This is the list of documents required to register a vehicle that has been purchased at a public auction:

    • Form 32
    • Original RC
    • Motor Insurance copy
    • Passport size photo
    • Fee as mentioned in Rule-81
    • Certificate of order confirming the sale of the vehicle in favor of the purchaser issued by the authorized personnel in the auction.
    • Copy of certificate confirming the vehicle auction issued by state or central government authority.
