    Two wheeler insurance policy is a mandatory document that you have to purchase under the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. It is a vital document that you have to carry all the time in your vehicle. It contains registration details, insurance details, etc. If the vehicle was in a mishap or accident or theft, filing a claim would be impossible without the insurance document in hand. A traffic police official also may stop and ask you for the vehicle documents anytime. So it is better to carry one all the time.

    So if in case you have lost the policy copy, then the quickest and important thing to do is to apply for a duplicate copy soon. Here is what you have to do;

    • Submit a written application to the insurance company stating that you have lost the policy document and you wish to apply for a duplicate copy along with the reason.
    • File an FIR in the police station of that jurisdiction for the same reason. If you have saved the policy number and details of the insurance document mention all the necessary details in the complaint copy. Take a copy of the written complaint form and submit it to the insurance company along with the request for duplicate policy copy.
    • The insurance company will ask you to sign an Indemnity bond on non-judicial stamp paper which will be the legal and formal request application for a duplicate insurance policy document. This bond will contain all insurance details along with your personal details.
    • In few cases the insurance company will advise you to publish an advertisement on the same but that is optional as many prefer not to.
